Picture Quality in Plain English
| Label | What it means | How common in UK TV |
|---|---|---|
| HD / 1080p | Standard high definition | Most live channels |
| 4K / UHD | Four times the detail of HD | Some sport, many films |
| 8K | Four times 4K | Almost no broadcast TV |
Why 8K Is Mostly a Name
UK broadcasters show almost nothing in 8K. Most live channels are HD, with some sport and many films in 4K. A service name with "8K" in it does not change what broadcasters send.
To get the best picture, focus on a 4K-capable device, enough broadband at the TV and a provider whose streams stay steady at busy times.
We do not make claims about other providers. Run our free trial on a Saturday afternoon and judge the picture yourself.
